Shashi Tharoor Asserts India’s Strong Stand Against Terrorism During Panama Visit

Panama City: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, leading an all-party delegation under the banner of Operation Sindoor Global Outreach, reaffirmed India’s uncompromising stance on terrorism. Speaking from Panama, Tharoor declared that terrorists will be held accountable for their actions, and there should be “no doubt” about that.

Unity Beyond Politics: Operation Sindoor Global Mission

Tharoor, accompanied by leaders from across India’s political spectrum, stressed a shared national resolve. “Though we come from different political backgrounds and regions, we are united in purpose,” he said. The delegation held key discussions with Panama’s Assembly President Dana Castaneda and selected parliamentarians, aiming to build global consensus on counterterrorism.

Response to Pahalgam Terror Attack

Tharoor stated that India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, only after giving Pakistan ample time to act on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 civilians, mostly tourists. When no meaningful steps were taken by the Pakistani authorities, India conducted precision strikes on known terror bases across the border.

“We had no intention of starting a war. But a terror act must not go unpunished,” Tharoor emphasized.

Cross-Party Delegation Sends Clear Message

The delegation includes:

  • Tejasvi Surya (BJP)
  • Sarfaraz Ahmad (JMM)
  • Milind Deora (Shiv Sena)
  • Gants Harish Balayogi (TDP)
  • Shashank Mani Tripathi and Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP)
  • Taranjit Singh Sandhu, former Ambassador to the US

Together, they are promoting India’s firm and united response to terrorism under Operation Sindoor.

Operation Sindoor: A Strategic Strike

Operation Sindoor was a measured and non-escalatory response. On May 7, Indian forces targeted nine terror infrastructures linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Highlighting India’s new approach, Tharoor said:

“We not only crossed the Line of Control but also the international border. We struck at terror headquarters deep within Pakistan, including the Punjabi heartland.”

He further cited previous operations such as the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot airstrike, comparing them to the strategic depth of Operation Sindoor.

Appeal for Global Support

During his address at the Indian Embassy in Panama, Tharoor urged the international community to step up.

“It’s no longer acceptable to suffer attack after attack and just appeal to the world. We seek your support to press for justice and prosecution of the terrorists.”

India, Tharoor reminded, has faced continuous terror threats since 1989, especially in Jammu and Kashmir.

Firm Stand on Kashmir

Reiterating India’s position, Tharoor stated:

“Pakistan’s intent is to claim territory it doesn’t control. But Kashmir is an integral part of India, and we will not give it up—no matter the cost.”

Panama’s Support for India’s Mission

In response, Panama Assembly President Dana Castaneda expressed solidarity with India, stating:

“We understand India’s message. Panama stands with India in its campaign for peace and the global fight against terrorism.”
