Shakira Cancels Second Concert Due to Production Issues

Colombian pop sensation Shakira has announced the cancellation of her upcoming concert in Washington DC, following a similar cancellation in Boston just days earlier. The Washington performance was scheduled to take place on Saturday as part of the WorldPride festival, one of the largest LGBTQ+ celebrations globally.

According to Nationals Park, the venue hosting the Washington show, “complications with the previous Boston concert” have prevented Shakira’s full tour production from being transported in time for the DC event. The stadium assured ticket holders that refunds would be issued automatically.

Shakira expressed her disappointment over the situation, sharing that she felt “devastated” by the cancellations. She explained that unforeseen circumstances impacted not only her but other artists performing in Boston, making it impossible to move the entire tour setup to Washington on schedule.

“I’ve been eagerly counting down the days to reconnect with my fans in Boston and Washington,” Shakira said. “I promise to do everything possible to be with you as soon as I can.”

The earlier Boston show at Fenway Park was canceled just before Shakira was set to take the stage on May 29. Other performances by artists Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn, planned for May 30, were also called off. Reports suggest the cancellations were triggered by safety concerns with the stage structure.

Live Nation, the entertainment company behind the events, revealed that routine pre-show inspections found “structural elements that did not meet safety standards,” prompting the decision to cancel.

Fans who had traveled to Washington specifically to see Shakira expressed frustration on social media, with some sharing their disappointment after facing a second canceled concert on this tour. However, many also voiced their support for the artist, emphasizing that she did not deserve such setbacks.

Currently, Shakira is touring stadiums across North America with her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour, promoting her 12th studio album. She is expected to perform next in Atlanta on June 2.
